Peter Celsing (1920–74) belongs to the small circle of Swedish modernist architects, alongside Gunnar Asplund and Sigurd Lewerentz, whose work gained recognition beyond Sweden. His approach demonstrates a mastery of architecture as an applied art, balancing function, economy, and artistic integrity, even amid the shift from small-scale, artisanal construction to large-scale prefabrication. John Håkansson’s mid-1990s black-and-white photographs capture the essence of Celsing’s buildings and document structures often altered since.
